Jacquard Fabric – A Story to Wear
When talking about high-end fabrics, it is impossible not to mention Jacquard fabric. Wearing a garment made with this fabric does not simply mean dressing in cotton, but carrying a piece of history that has its roots in creativity and the industrial revolution. A fabric used by great contemporary fashion houses and designers, such as, but not limited to, Miuccia Prada, Etro, Missoni and Armani, who have been able to enhance its qualities of value and uniqueness.
The Origins and Characteristics of Jacquard Fabric
Legend has it that an Italian, Giovanni il Calabrese, known as Jean le Calabrais, created a first version of a loom similar to the Jacquard one in the 15th century. However, the actual Jacquard loom, the one that revolutionized the textile industry, was invented in 1804 in Lyon, France, by Joseph Marie Jacquard. This innovation allowed, and allows, the creation of complex designs automatically during weaving, combining threads, thicknesses and textures to create patterns with three-dimensional effects that vary depending on the light, obtaining a fabric with a unique appearance. It is a fabric that "gets noticed" for its ability to give depth and character to any garment or accessory.
